USC Pacific Asia Museum

The USC Pacific Asia Museum is a museum near Pasadena, California, United States, that specializes in the arts and cultures of East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. The museum was founded in 1971 by Dr. Walter H.N. Hui, and moved to its current location in 1996. It is the largest university-based museum in the United States.

The museum has a permanent collection of over 18,000 objects, including ceramics, paintings, lacquerware, textiles, and bronze sculptures. It also hosts temporary exhibitions of art and culture from East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia.

The museum’s permanent collection contains more than 18,000 objects from Asia, the Pacific Islands, and North America, making it one of the most diverse collections of its kind in the United States. The museum also offers a wide variety of educational programs, including docent-led tours, lectures, films, and workshops. In addition to its permanent collection and exhibitions, the USC Pacific Asia Museum also houses a research library with more than 40,000 volumes on Asian art and culture. 

The library is open to the public and scholars by appointment. The USC Pacific Asia Museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and is a member of the Association of Asian Studies.

Attractions

This museum is housed in a historic building with a Chinese Qing dynasty design. The building has galleries surrounding a courtyard garden with koi ponds, graceful trees, and rock sculptures. The building is a California State Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum also features an auditorium and conservatory on the second floor. There are numerous lectures and classes offered throughout the year.

The museum has more than 15,000 pieces and is home to special exhibitions, performances, workshops, and classes. Visitors can also participate in art programs, exercise sessions, and lectures. The museum is located in an historic building influenced by Chinese imperial palaces.

One of the newest additions to the USC Pacific Asia Museum is a new interactive gallery. “Crossroads: Exploring the Silk Road” is an interactive exhibition that explores the historic Silk Road and the cultures that thrived along it. It features a video installation and multimedia experience that engages an audience of all ages.

The Pasadena Ice Skating Center is a great place to go for a fun winter activity. They have a variety of ice skating sessions, including public skating, family skating, and even skate lessons.
